Tagging threads doesn’t work on a board as slow as this. The next iteration of EleoChan should have static boards.

then it would be exactly the same as any other chan. Youd lose your major selling point.
Well…
To me, the tagging things creates a scattered effect. I thought, in the long term, popular boards would emerge out of the murk, but instead there’s just a lot of little boards.
Even boards that seem popular often die after a while; for some reason whatever group is enjoying them loses interest, the primary poster(s) stop posting and the board gets stale. For example, at the bottom of the page is a list of “top boards”; these are the boards with the highest number of posts overall.
But click on “high resolution”. Last post was 25 days ago. Blegh.
Besides, doesn’t the posting to multiple boards have the added effect of keeping discussion to a single thread and bringing in people from multiple boards. Posting to multiple boards = more discussion, which is extremely necessary for a chan as small as this.
Again, in theory, yes. But the problem with this is it requires that user to tag effectively.
Another problem with the tagging system is that it requires the user to a) give a shit, b) not tag like a moron.
Tagging works on a site like YouTube or Flickr because you put your video or photo up there and it’s there forever. Given the fast-paced post-and-go nature of imageboards, and the fact that a thread doesn’t last forever, I think the tagging part just comes off as extraneous to a lot of people. Only the most diligent, too-much-time-on-their-hands posters give a shit enough to tag and tag well.
Again, I think the concept was awesome on paper but failed in practice.
It was a nice experiment, though. I learned a lot about Rails, programming in general, MySQL, and it was a nice sort of social experiment.
I may just leave these boards here and start another version of EleoChan with static boards, just so I don’t turn off users.
By the way, when I said static boards, I wasn’t implying a bunch of linked Wakaba boards or Kusaba boards. The static boards will be a proprietary application like these boards use. A lot of the features here will carry over, and there will be some new ones.

1. These boards are anything but fast paced
2. I glanced at the other threads in this board, the overwhelming majority of OPs linked to multiple boards. Also in the case of a faster imageboard, linking to more than one board will provide more bumps than only one board. Thusly it would become much more difficult to avoid being instantly bumped back to page 8 without posting to multiple boards to gain support for a thread. Trust me, people will do alot to get posts in their threads. On normal chans this is usually with a promise of porn or cp, but that is getting old and anon tires of it.
>1. These boards are anything but fast paced
Told. But I still think people browse the information superhighway in general with an ADD attitude. Just because the boards are slow doesn’t mean everyone who visits slows down with them.
>2. I glanced at the other threads in this board, the overwhelming majority of OPs linked to multiple boards.
OK you got me there. However you must account for how often I post as Anonymous to sometimes give the illusion of activity, lol
Also, one thing I forgot to mention that I dislike about the way the tagging system turned out is that there’s a lot of fucking porn. Because the entire site is user driven there’s really nothing I can do about it. But Christ, there’s porn and hentai everywhere.
