Anonination - Version 3.0
This thread gives us a chance to continue our discussion as well as figure out how many people actually cared to come here.
Report in faggots.
I have done some research which I would like to share.
Antarctica is full of untapped mineral resources, the only thing that stops real nations from exploiting it is the antarctic treaty and the fact that nobody really wants to go there.
One of the intriguing things with setting up a nation in antarctica is that multinational companies might find find us an attractive investment, as long as we provide them with a good climate for investment. Therefore we need to have a stable government which can exercise the authority to award contracts and deal with them.
On the plus side, if im not mistaken, the antarctic treaty makes it impossible for any signatory to interfere with us (someone confirm this).
Now as for living is concerned, most of us would be contented to live inside and underground. For those of us who live in cities, you are probably familiar with traveling large distances without ever seeing natural light. That is of course how the nation would have to be, we would not generally travel outside except when there are specific things that might need sunlight like greenhouses.
Right now you can do a few things to help, one of them being moving to Alaska, if you are dedicated enough (or if your really hardcore, Greenland). With the Alaskan homesteading rules, if you settle and plant a few crops there, the government will give you free land. That land can be used to develop and test building techniques in an extremel cold environment using the cheapass tools we would have available. Greenland, or Canada etc. would be a logical next stage, you want a place that has permanent ice sheets to conduct these sort of experiments.
If you are a chemist, we need a cement that will dry in extremely cold temperatures. Or a compound that is malleable and can freeze into a solid block without cracking. We could use them to build structures and then just provide insulation inside so that the foundations don’t melt. (think of star wars)
Or better yet, you could just Ask the scientists that are/were stationed in Antarctica how they do it (though they probably have all sorts of high tech equipment).
This is of course a short explanation and you are free to expand it.
I have an idea, there is such a place as Antarctic University

MYTH: Antarctica is covered with ice.
FACT: Over 100km2 is not covered with ice, and is solid ground.
MYTH: Antarctica is not a political entity
FACT: It is a political entity founded by the 1961 ATS Treaty, with its own money.
MYTH: Antarctica is the smallest continent.
FACT: It is larger in land area than both Europe and Australia
MYTH: The Sahara Desert is the largest in the world.
FACT: The center of Antarctica gets no rain, and is the largest ‘desert’ in the world
MYTH: Antarctica is too cold for plants, animals and people
FACT: We have many of each: algae, moss, lichens, penguins, seals and… people!
MYTH: All the settlements on Antarctica are recent
FACT: 12 date from the 1950s, 7 from the 1960s (8 counting University Peak),
07 from the 1970s, 16 from the 1980s, 5 from the 1990s and 3 from 2000s.

Projects Back Up Board
Every time 7/78chan dies we have to pick up the pieces and figure out where we left off. Enough is enough, this board is a designated backup until they finish with their drama and give us a /pro/ that will actually stay up for more than a week.
